I just picked this thing up, here’s what I wish someone had shown me before I pulled the trigger. The TLDR is that this is a pretty solid inexpensive backpack with a couple of drawbacks that I think are OK for the price.

(1) Build quality- 915 D Cordura Polyester on the body feels durable and premium. Don’t expect any problems there. What I don’t really like is the suede bottom. I can tell that’s going to be a dirt/grime magnet and probably the first failure point. They should have just stuck with the cordura all around. Also, the zippers are nothing to write home about as far as I can tell. YKK would have been appreciated. Interior is deep black-higher vis gray would have been a huge improvement.

(2) Pockets and capacity- the main pocket is the best feature. Its cavernous and stretchable. You can toss a ton of stuff in here and it’ll just swallow it right up. Unlike my Metro Backpack Pro, this backpack feels great with the equipment I’ve shown in the photos. The Metro feels over stuffed and this Jansport isn’t breaking a sweat. However, the front pocket with the organization is very deep and doesn’t zip open far enough to be as useful as it could be. Huge mistake by Jansport there. Lastly, the laptop compartment is padded and spacious, but doesn’t have a false bottom. Either create one yourself with foam or sleeve up your laptop. The felt pocket on top is big enough for a Pro XL size phone and feels good.

(3) Comfort and Ergonomics: this isn’t a military/hiking pack or an advanced tech pack. It feels ok on the shoulder; just ok. But that’s alright because of the price and intended use. Taking it to class/gym will be fine, wouldn’t wanna take it on a trail or a death march. The top grab handle is wrapped in suede and feels great. And despite the lack of waterproof zips, it does the “rain flap” over the main compartment the right way-it’s there but it doesn’t impede you zipping the zippers.

(4) Conclusion/Misc- This bag \*looks\* great. Just great. The only thing I don’t like is the big Jansport logo, which I think should be blacked out or gone. But this is “classic” backpack looks, proportioned correctly, taller and slimmer than the normal Right Pack. I love its looks. I also love the fact that it can stretch and pockets have independent volume, and this thing can take a huge loadout with low fuss, unlike my Metro Backpack Pro. At the $38 I paid, this is the definitive “beater” or “everyday” bag. At $50 new on Amazon, it’s still a really solid choice.

Hope this is helpful for anyone considering this bag and I’ll try to respond to questions if anyone has them.
