is buying a screen protector and shell case necessarily for new 2ds xl?

Im about to buy new nintendo 2ds xl (missing sd card and stylus, i will buy it a bit later.) , watched lots of video, saw some tips, the console will be fine without a screen protector and a shell case? do i really have to spend more money?
