worried about ibc
Hello,
I'm a little stressed and worried that the radiologist was dismissive about my concerns. Last Saturday, I began to feel a lot of soreness in my left breast. By Sunday, it was red, hot, and swollen. My nipple was flat and my skin had pitting. I saw my gyn right away on Monday, and she prescribed antibiotics and scheduled me for a mammogram and ultrasound for Friday. Since I started the antibiotics, the redness has gone down drastically, but now the skin appears purple, and the texture of my skin remains dimpled. There is less superficial pain, but the deep pain remains intense and shooting. It's also now sore under my arm, and the left side of my rib cage appears much puffier than the right. Also, my skin has become itchy. When I had the mammogram today, they said it looked clear and were ready to send me home. I insisted on the ultrasound my doctor ordered. They said that also looked fine and asked me "how I got mastitis." I obviously don't know. If I was certain I had mastitis and knew how I got it, I wouldn't be there. I haven't breastfed in over a decade. They seemed confident that it would continue to resolve as I finish my course of antibiotics, but I am really worried that they were dismissing IBC symptoms. Does anyone with experience with IBC know if I should ask for a second opinion or just wait it out? Should I take the subsiding redness/heat as an all clear even though the other issues are still there?
