Just in case someone's not familiar, "Great Wall" is a unique improvement for Han China, while "Ming Great Wall" is a unique improvement for the later Ming China. Both basically do the same thing with the Ming version just being a bit better. Pictured is two sections of Ming Great Wall on the left and two sections of Great Wall on the right.

Doing my first full China playthrough here. Now I very much do like the fact that the Great Wall construction is an Age-spanning project if you stick to China. I've got some beautiful long Han-era wall snakes going on at the periphery of my borders (to keep pesky Xerxes out if he ever stops being a coward and comes at me). But now that I transitioned to Ming, I'm continuing the project to patch up the different sections and unify it all into truly great walls.

Now famously this is exactly how it happened: the Wall(s) was built over ages with later dynasties connecting earlier sections to form the modern structure. So overall, very cool to see this sort-of-shared-element between the two civs. But the "connect the different sections" thing doesn't really work when the two improvements don't actually connect!

I guess the only way to get properly continuous walls is to upgrade all old wall spots to Ming Great Wall. But that then feels a lot less like continuing the work of the previous dynasties and more like just doing the same work again and might as well not have built any walls before either.

Anyway. Fix that before inventing space, devs! I'm off to keeping the Mongolians out.

I do not enjoy the fact that the improvements "Great Wall" and "Ming Great Wall" do not actually connect
