He ended it in silence
I’ve been in a LDR for about 3 years (really good friends the year before). The relationship had a lot of struggles the first few years but I’ve consistently been in therapy resolving my issues, he has not. When he’s overwhelmed, or there’s conflict his reaction is to retreat/avoid until it’s over. I told him I understand the need for space, but a text letting me know makes all the difference than him just dropping for several days as he plays video games non stop. Especially when there’s a conflict between us. I usually have to be the one to bring things up, plan and essentially force a conversation to happen which has been tiring.
He sent me a message saying he’s unhappy with how things have been over the last few weeks and how I don’t see happy with him. I told him I’m glad he’s bringing this up (I tried to initiate a conversation which he would ignore and pretend he didn’t hear it) but I ended up snapping. It was like years of resentment came out. I told him he stays up all night gaming, then sleeps all day so I don’t hear from him until the end of my day where I have to move to dinner and bedtime for my kiddo, that I’m tired of staying up way to late to talk to him when he won’t even wake up at a decent time to talk to me. I told him he’s only been telling me the most negative things about his life, and looking to me to solve them but then argued with everything I said. That he complains about money but spends a lot per day on beer and cigarettes. That he’s constantly asking more of me, but won’t adjust his own habits at all.
A week passed with silence. Eventually, I sent a message saying “I’m going to assume with the silence the relationship is over. If that isn’t what you want or how you feel please let me know”. He replied saying that he loves me and loves us and doesn’t want this to end, that a lot of what I said was right but he wants to talk more. He asked for Sunday, I said anytime before 4pm. He cancelled for a legitimate reason, so I gave him 2 other evenings I’d be free. He said either of those worked for him. The first day came and went, the 2nd day came and I almost sent the follow up texts “do you still want to talk? What time?” And I decided not to. I felt if this was a conversation he wanted, he could participate in it too. After I realized he would not be calling, I decided to remove the background we had and the location. I tried to get myself to block him but I couldn’t. It was probably a petty way of saying you’ve lost access to me (I mean it about 70%, I’m trying to mean it more). He opened the last text I sent the week before finally (as it had been on delivered) and said nothing. I decided to send one more text (lame I know) and said I had hoped we could talk, and thought he would initiate the conversation. That the fear I’ve expressed over the year has been (and he knows) if I don’t reach for you, if I don’t make conversations happen I’d never hear from you, and I’m thinking that may be true. That I wish him well always ♥️. He hasn’t read it.
I don’t want the relationship back without change, but I more wonder if he’s really going to sit in silence and say absolutely nothing about the ending of the relationship? He constantly talked about our life together, marriage, how im one of the most important people in his life…and it just ends in silence from him?
