Best laptop for editing 4K travel documentaries under 1L?

Gadget Help 🎧

I need a laptop for editing travel documentaries: no over the top effects, think heavy colour grading of 4K D-Log footage on DaVinci/Premiere.

- I Shoot 10-bit D-Log on an Osmo Pocket 4P, with iPhone + GoPro as secondary cams
- Making cinematic documentaries/vlogs
- Already have a 2TB external SSD and a BenQ monitor
- Budget: 80k–1L

I looked at Windows machines in this budget and it doesn’t seem to work out. RTX 5050 laptops are 1.1L+ now because of the RAM/SSD price mess, and the cheaper 3050/4050 ones don’t hardware-decode 10-bit HEVC properly (Nvidia only added that with the 50 series). Plus free Resolve on Windows caps H.264/265 exports at 8 bit, so I’d be paying for Studio too. (But feel free to suggest any windows laptop if it can do the job)

So realistically my options are:

- MacBook Air M4 16GB/256GB, currently ~97k
- Mac mini M6 16GB/256GB, ~1L (this is the new one, launched Sept 22)
- MacBook Neo cheaper at ~70k but only 8GB so I’m not keen on it

Hopefully I can buy one of these at a cheaper price during Diwali sales.
Idk much about macs so I’m not sure about risking a refurbished/2nd hand piece.

I plan to buy a Mac with a Pro chip 2 years down the line, so I need something temporary that can smoothly support me for ~2 years without causing too many problems. Short of money right now, but I don’t want to compromise on the videos.

- Which of these do you think will get the job done for me and strike the best balance of performance and budget for this kind of work?
- Is 16GB genuinely fine for 2 years of graded 4K, or will I regret it?
- Do Macs actually get cheaper in BBD or GIF?

Would especially like to hear from anyone editing 10-bit log on a base Air.
