No, rebooting Halo is NOT a good idea

Discussion

The people vouching for this have no idea what they’re asking for, erasing half if not all of Halo’s established lore is going to make a somewhat stable continuity look confusing and unapproachable. Now sure, Halo 5’s story getting retconned into nonexistence won’t exactly make me lose sleep over it but we did get separate, MUCH BETTER stories that came afterwords. Like Halo Wars 2 and Infinite, even several of the books. And I get the books aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but that’s besides the point, the point is if H5 would be not canon anymore than literally every other story entry and added lore would be too. Not to mention, H5 came out 11 years ago, you just need to let some things go, ok? That’s a lot of lore and world building to just throw in the dumpster. That’s what Disney did with SW Legends and that didn’t exactly do them any favors, it’s not worth the trouble. And who’s to say some of Bungie’s lore wouldn’t get retconned after the reboot concept hypothetically gets the green light? That wouldn’t be very good, now would it?

And before anyone says “BuT hUMaNs aRE SupPoSed To BE FOrErUNNEr”, they always were. Even when the Forerunner Trilogy came out it was at the very least implied that Humans and Forerunners were once the same. They just went down different evolutionary paths, that isn’t a huge change and it’s really not worth complaining over. Hell, even Campaign Evolved supports this with one of Penitent Tangent’s Terminals saying Humans and Forerunners have always been and will always be the same.

The only way forward is FORWARD. Each franchise has their ups and downs, it’s just the way it is sometimes. Pushing the reset button will only make things harder to follow, and the last thing we need is a second Silver Timeline on our hands. DO. NOT. REBOOT. HALO.
