A little FLEXibility in the raid size, please!

Forever

Blizzard has announced that Forever will feature static 10/20 and occasional 40-player raids. Thank you, Blizz: this choice of sizes is great!

That said, static/fixed raid sizes was by a wide margin the least popular (!!!) choice on the Classic+ Project poll, garnering a mere 9.9% of votes from ~56k respondents, while some iteration of Flex earned >70% approval.

SoD 20-40 flex was perhaps too zerg-like and simple, while Retail flex is probably too tightly tuned and "anti-classic". But could there be an elegant and creative third solution like we saw with Transmog that appeases everyone and provides players (mainly those in charge of rosters) just a little bit of flexibility and better sleep the night before raid?

Thank you!

Community responses:

  1. "It's awful to have to bench players and you /have/ to have a bench otherwise you'll get fucked by callouts."
  2. "Agreed, as a guild master I already dread having to deal with the logistics to deal with both 10 and 20 man raids. Let alone 40 man."
  3. "I have a big group of guildies who have all played together for a long time. It'd be a real shame if Blizzard sticks with a design that means we can't all raid at the same time anymore as we have for the last 7 years."
  4. "The problem isn't getting 20 people, yeah that's easy. The problem is the roster and the bench in particular. For a twenty man raid you want people who can fill if someone calls out. Having some amount of flex raiding rocks because you can take your bench."
