Multiple fragrances with same DNA?

I was wondering if you guys buy different perfumes with the same prominent main note. Like for example I have Valentino BIR Coral Fantasy where I love the apple note. And there are many other nice fragrances with it as well, like nuit de L'homme edp. Or do you guys try to cover more diverse collections of notes with as few different perfumes as possible? I guess it gets down to preference ultimately.
