I’ve been feeling conflicted about my relationship for months and I’m not sure if it’s time…
My (26F) boyfriend (27M) is a great guy. He’s kind, sweet, responsible, handsome, all the stops. We’ve been dating for almost 6 months now, but been seeing each other since last fall.
In the beginning, we were passionate and giddy and excited. He planned dates, was curious about me as a person, was proper courtship. We also had fantastic intimacy and it was beneficial and exciting for both parties every time.
Over time, I noticed he wasn’t asking me many questions, didn’t actively plan many things, and enjoys spending a lot of free time at home. That started relatively early in our relationship, but I was okay with chilling out and slowing down a little bit, I got it.
But then, it got to the point where we spent a lot of time together doing nothing but watching TV. No talking, no interactive situations, and when I’d try to start conversations, he would kind of ignore me or just brush off the conversation and it would end quickly.
A couple months ago, I told him that I’ve been feeling lonely in our relationship, and our intimate life was taking a hit because of that and the feeling of not being emotionally connected. It felt more like he just wanted to be with my body, and not with me as a human being.
Since then, we’ve been in a pattern of being upset or hurt, him feeling rejected, me being nitpicking, him being passive aggressive, and me being sharp.
He’s been working on being more present and I’ve been working on my intimacy things and being more relaxed and positive. We’ve both had slip ups in the last month and a half that have caused a lot of internal paid to the other person and makes us feel like our reset has been reset again.
I’m worried that this cycle won’t be worked out if we can’t get into a spot that’s more chill. He’s going to be leaving in a month for about a month, and Im finding myself needing this break away from him so I can breathe and just do me for a little bit.
Sometimes I find I’m getting annoyed by some of the things he does that I used to find endearing (like making random noises or talking about poop).
We haven’t said “I love you.”
My parents came to visit and said “you’re not in love with this boy, you probably should just move on” (5 months into our relationship) and they said they believed that because I wasn’t talking about him like a girl who was in love.
If I were in love, I would be by now, right? Are these problems too big to have on the table at such a short period of time? What if we just simply aren’t compatible?
TLDR: My boyfriend and I have been emotionally disconnected and our sex life has become crap because of it, and we are now in a cycle of fighting and arguing so early in a relationship. Is this something to break up over? What should I do about my relationship with where we are at currently?
