Playing for first time but game keeps crashing

I was more of a starcraft guy and grew up on that, but the new expansion got my curious so I bought WC3 reforged. I'm playing through the original campaign, I played through like 7 missions and called it a night. A week later when I came back I had no save files, I manually located them on my drive and try to launch them, it prompts me to log in (for a single player game?) and i do, asks for authenticator and i enter it, then game crashes.

I did some googling and found years of people complaining about crashing and game save loss. No solutions.
I restarted the campaign, saving often. After beating the 4th mission the game crashes. I reloaded, finish the mission and it crashes again. The game always crashes after finishing the mission and watching the cutscene before the next stage. I can't move on to the next level because the crash occurs before the game can register the mission as complete I guess.

What options do I have?
