DCIG piece on VMware exits: count what you eliminate, not just what you replace
Jerome Wendt at DCIG wrote up three checks for a VMware replacement. Short version:
Inventory every service vSphere is doing for you today, including the stuff you forgot about. DRS-style placement, vSAN or the array behind it, NSX if you have it, whatever backup product hooks in through VADP.
Then for each candidate, count what actually goes away vs what just gets "integrated." A platform that talks to your existing SAN and your existing backup product still leaves you with the same number of contracts and upgrade matrices.
Last one is hardware. Some replacements come with an HCL tight enough that you're buying new nodes on day one.
