Are there any apartments that aren't disgusting?

I've been looking for apartments in and around the birmingham area and every time I think i've found one at a reasonable price I search for reveiws and its full of people complaining about mold, roaches, and other bugs. Can I really trust these reviews? Is every apartment practically condemnable? Are there any apartments that I can trust to not be full of mold and bugs when I move in?

When I started my search I thought I wasn't asking for too much. All I really want is a place under 1,300 with washer/dryer connections (or in unit) and no mold/bugs, but that seems to be impossible to find. Any advice, reccomendations, or good reviews would be greatly appreciated!
