Express Entry PR Refusal – Officer Appears to Have Misinterpreted My Employment Letter (NOC 72100 vs 72400). Should I Request Reconsideration?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experienced an Express Entry refusal involving NOC classification or a reconsideration request.
I applied for Canadian PR through Express Entry, with my in April 2026, and claimed my work experience under NOC 72100, based on the duties listed in my employment reference letter.
My application was recently refused because the officer concluded that my experience was more consistent with NOC 72400 – Construction Millwrights and Industrial Mechanics.
The refusal letter states that my employment letter described duties such as reading blueprints, operating lathes/grinders, machinery installation, major tooling changeovers, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repairing/replacing parts, operating cranes/forklifts, etc.
However, these duties were not actually stated in my employment letter. This is what concerns me. It appears the officer may have misunderstood or incorrectly attributed duties to my employment letter and then based the NOC assessment on those duties.
My lawyer has advised me to consider requesting reconsideration, explaining that the refusal appears to be based on a misunderstanding of the evidence submitted.
I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who has experienced something similar:
Has anyone successfully requested reconsideration after an officer misinterpreted an employment letter?
How does IRCC generally handle a situation where the officer’s description of the submitted duties does not match the actual document?
Is there anything specific I should include in a reconsideration request?
I’m particularly interested in experiences involving NOC 72100 vs 72400 or employment-duty misinterpretation.
Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences!
