Week 3 Takeaways š
Hereās one fanās personal opinion on the state of our team after getting spanked by the Falcons on Thursday Night Football with a 1-2 record now..
The Good:
- Jordan Love ( 28/53 312yds 2TD 1INT )
*Heās doing everything he can to manage this offense and I will not accept slander at this time
- Matthew Golden ( 5rec 100yds 1TD )
*Really finding his footing in year 2 and finally given opportunities to shine, looks very promising
- Christian Watson ( 7rec 96yds 1TD )
*4 TDās already on the year and staying healthy is a great sign for our receiving room moving forward
- Xavier McKinney ( 5TOTās 1INT )
*We know who he is and what he brings! Just really hated to see the early offensive play calls on the opening drive after his INTā¦
The Bad:
- After 3 weeks we STILL have no running game, in fact, itās getting worse.. At this point itās a clear mixture of no RB1, no offensive line, and bad play calling / offensive structure based on time, score, and field positioning. Itās in shambles.
- Offensive Line is actually horrible. We donāt have any competent Guards at the moment and RT is now M.I.A after Zach went down with injury..
This NEEDS to be heavily addressed over the next week and a half that we donāt play a football game. We need to elevate practice squad players, sign Free Agent OTās AND explore trades with established linemen who are on contract years. Our O-Line needs to be stripped down and rebuilt asap.
The Ugly:
- Matt Lafleur is not just on the hot seat by some fans, but now mostly all fans. His leadership and decision making has been heavily questioned over recent years, and now the Packers have a reputation of being a team that gives up and doesnāt finish games. Responsibility always falls on Coach / GM.
Game Analysis:
I think the game went wrong immediately after the opening drive INT that Penix through. X got the pick and gave us field position practically at midfield. This should lead to points probably 90% of the time. What happened instead? MLF dialed up a 5 yard flat to Kraft, took half the play clock to tell Love to go hurry up and give him a terrible play call, 2nd down was wasted, and 3rd down Love was rushed to make a bad throw to an open Watson on a right side out route due to protection issues.
It was evident all night that our playcalling and game plan was so off par. MLF wanted hurry up drives to push back on Falcons pressure packages but it was so poorly executed. Love wasnāt given the time with the play clock to ever make full defensive reads, he was rushed to can plays or stick with calls, protection packages didnāt matter we have no line and he was still pressured on half of his drop backs. Lastly, there was no single effort by the coaches to establish any run game whatsoever. Itās difficult with no line to be a run first team, we know, but to not even give the defense different looks? No run heavy sets, little usage of screens, no creative PA boots or QB designed runs just to gain respect from the defense and open up the play book? We looked flat and pitiful last night, and I really hope we can flip a switch very fast otherwise our season will be over before we can even get excited over a Micah Parsons return to the field. Prayers up Packer fans
