How to play against heavy tower/castle/wall/defense players?

I'm an aoe2 noob. I played the hell outta the game when I was a kid, along with AOM but I usually just played campaign and 1v1 matches against computer and used cheat codes and had fun 😂

I just picked up the game again on console with my friends and they're all noobs too

Basically the game goes like this:

Rush castle age, hoard stone, upgrade walls and towers, sit back wait for your opponent to try an attack. Decimate them, counter attack....win because they just sent their whole army to their death.

They're usually long games too, like 1.5-2 hours.

I always have the best economy and age up faster than everyone else. And I always try to craft a few cheap units to go and raid as soon as possible. Kill off their villagers, stall their entire development, and continue progressing my own and capitalize.

When I succeed with the above strategy, games are shorter and more fun. Only 30-60 mins depending on how many players.

What's the strategy against players that like to fully upgrade all their defenses and spam them everywhere?
