Roommate on call 25/8 and never leaves the room
I'm a college freshman, and I just moved into my dorm this semester. This is my first time sharing a room, so I'm not sure what's normal to put up with and what's worth bringing up.
My roommate almost never leaves the room, and whenever she's there, she's on the phone. Most of the calls are with her boyfriend, and a lot of the time they're fighting. When it's not him, she's often arguing with her mom. At night, she stays on the phone with her boyfriend until around 2am.
She also does online tutoring from our room, and she never wears AirPods or headphones, so I hear everything at full volume, both her side and theirs.
I basically have no quiet time in my own room. I can't study, I can't sleep, and it's stressful to constantly overhear people fighting.
I haven't figured out how to bring it up without it turning into a whole thing, especially since she already seems stressed out with her relationship and her family. But I can't keep living like this for the rest of the year.
How would you approach this conversation, especially this early in the year? Is it reasonable to ask for things like headphones for tutoring and no calls after a certain time? And if talking doesn't work, when should I go to my RA?
