NETs with MEN-1

Advice Wanted

My husband (43) just got diagnosed with a NET in a retroperitoneal lymph node (1.8x1.6cm). He also has a suspicious looking 3.1cm lymph node in his mesentery, and a 1cm spot on his liver. It’s grade 1, so best that can be. We saw a surgical oncologist Wednesday who ordered a DOTATATE PET, and then also genetic testing. His dad has MEN-1 but we don’t talk to him, and the only thing we’ve ever known him to have is really bad kidney stones. My husband does have hyperparathyroidism as well but it’s never been bad enough to warrant removal. Anyway, the surgeon wants to confirm the diagnosis in my husband before he comes up with a plan. Does anyone else have any experience with NETs and MEN-1? I know if he has the disorder it’ll be surveillance and a high likelihood of recurrence for the rest of his life, but I’m wondering how that would impact the initial treatment, which I had assumed would be surgery after they identify where the primary source is and if the liver is a met. Any insight is appreciated! We’re all a little spinny right now.
