Past job framing advice?

Hi! I’m prepping for a leadership level interview and one thing I am confident I will be asked about is why I left a past company and returned after a year. The honest answer is that in COVID my job responsibilities ballooned (healthcare org), outpacing my title and compensation, and when I asked for an adjustment I was basically denied. I later left on good terms for another opportunity, and a year later was recruited back by the CEO. Is there a way to talk about this that highlights the compliment but doesn’t sound petty? I truly don’t feel petty about it but everything I practice sounds like that to me.
