Emotional neglect and dysthymia?

I was reading about dysthymia (persistent depressive disorder) and that an important trigger for its development is childhood neglect or trauma.
The idea is that dysthymics get most of their satisfaction and self esteem from parents who were difficult to please.
So we basically grow up thinking about how to be more likeable to others or to feel accepted I guess?

The more I read about it, the more I realize patterns of people pleasing I do. It's like a coping mechanism or a way to get the gratification of being good enough from others.

The problem with dysthymia is that it feels like I'm living in a gray mode. Complete emotional numbness to positive and negative situations.
Does anyone else here have PDD? If so, how do you cope with it?
