How can i help my bf?

So he has been going through some stuff lately, his grandmother is in hospital and shes on the verge of .. as he said. He had told me how he felt as tho its better if she.. because shes suffering. I offered to go over and meet him (i live in another state) he said not needed. He has been sleeping on calls otherwise i always slept first.. but he said im emotional (i ended up crying when he told me all this) so he prefers talking about it with his best friend. I m really trying idk how to support him from here, he doesn’t even express much.. what to do?
