Profile-8/7/5 - How much do UG marks matter for MBA placements ? (57.3% in BE)
I’m planning to pursue an MBA from a Tier 1 college and I have a concern regarding placements and I am planning to give CAT this November.
My profile:
- BE Mechanical: 57.3%
- 10th: ~85%
- 12th: ~76%
- Work experience: 5.5+ years at Infosys
My main concern is my undergraduate percentage.
I understand that some campus recruiters have criteria such as 60% throughout academics. If a company has such a hard cutoff, I assume I would be ineligible for that particular company.
But I wanted to understand how this works in practice:
- How common are 60%/65% graduation cutoffs among MBA recruiters?
- Does prior work experience (5+ years) make any difference when companies shortlist candidates, or does a hard academic cutoff automatically eliminate you?
- More importantly, if I apply for jobs independently through LinkedIn/Naukri during 3rd or 4th semester, do companies generally have the same academic eligibility criteria?
I am asking this coz spending that amount of money for MBA and giving 2 years of life only to find out that you are not even eligible for any placement opportunities would be disastrous.
Also Please note that I am planning on doing HR or Supply Chain Management
Thanks!
