(25F & 25M) Feel like giving up; third country involved + no concrete plan to close the distance
I (25F) and my boyfriend (25M) met in university in our home country - let’s call this Country A. We had a lovely two years together before I decided to pursue higher education in Country B. He initially said he’d follow me soon, but then his plans changed and now he wants us to move to Country C. We’ve now been two years long distance, there’s still no plan to close the distance, and I’m starting to feel like giving up.
He qualifies for a visa in Country B, but he doesn’t want to apply for it. He really wants to move to Country C because he believes it’s better for his career. I do see his point, but now I have to worry about moving to Country C. He keeps encouraging me to ask my company to move me there (because they have relocated some employees to Country C), and he sounds kind of disappointed when I tell him I haven’t made any progress towards it.
I just don’t want to move to Country C when i don’t know anyone there and he’s not even moved there yet. But, he’s still pursuing a pathway to Country C but it will take a long time to upskill to even have the chance to qualify for a visa there.
I floated the idea of me just moving back to Country A, even though I like living in Country B better, but then he said he absolutely wants to move out of Country A and there would be no point as he’d move out eventually.
Selfishly, I worry that I’m just wasting my time here. He keeps saying that he’ll move to Country B by some date if Country C doesn’t work out, but he keeps moving the date and delaying it. What if I get to 30 and he’s still adamant on pursuing his dream to go to Country C? I don’t want to waste my early years on a futile romance…
Sometimes I contemplate on ending it, but when I speak to him and visit him in person, somehow those thoughts go away. Would really appreciate some advice here.
