Would love some advice!

Hi guys! I’m a 25-year-old guy who lost my dog last year (a Basset mix named Boomer), and I’m finally starting to look into getting another dog. I’ve had experience with a few different breeds, including a German Shepherd, Basset mix, and Chorkie, but I’d love some advice on what breed I should consider next.

I’m looking for a dog that would be good for hiking and jogging, but also enjoy going to pet-friendly restaurants and dog beaches. I’m planning to move to SoCal within the next two years, so I’d also like a breed that can handle the warmer climate reasonably well.

I was originally considering getting another German Shepherd, but I’m concerned about having to deal with the summer heat. I’ve also looked into Black and Tan Coonhounds, but their strong scent drive seems like it could make things difficult at restaurants or in other distracting environments.

Rhodesian Ridgebacks are another breed I’ve considered, but their prey drive makes me a little hesitant about taking one to dog beaches where there may be a lot of small dogs.

So, I’d really appreciate any insight or recommendations for other breeds that might be a better fit for what I’m looking for. I’m especially interested in hearing from people who actually own these breeds and can speak to their temperament, exercise needs, prey drive, trainability, and how they do in public places.
