Shocking news post breakup!

My ex (49m) and I (41f) were together for four years. This summer he ended things again, saying he needed to be completely “out there” and “untethered.”

A few days ago, I went back to the jeweler who made a ruby ring my ex had given me. I wanted to have it turned into a pendant, basically transforming it into something I could keep without it continuing to symbolize the relationship.

While I was there, the jeweler told me that my ex had been in last week to purchase an engagement ring for someone else. He commissioned it a week after we broke up, two months ago.

Overall I feel so much gratitude for learning this truth now, for the jewelers sense of integrity and his belief that I could be set free by this news.

I don’t know exactly when this new relationship started, and I don’t think knowing would help. But the timeline is shocking!! I spent years with someone who repeatedly seemed deeply ambivalent about commitment, and within weeks of telling me he needed to be completely free of our relationship, he was apparently considering marriage to someone else seriously enough to buy a ring.

I’m not looking to get him back, and it doesn’t make me question my worth. I’m just stunned by what this information potentially means about the final months of our relationship, and by the bizarre experience of finding out while I was literally having another ring transformed into something that no longer represented him.
