Need Help from Uk Parents of autistic non verbal kids without EHCP starting primary.

Hi my child is non verbal and due to start school next september. He doesn’t have an EHCP and we are still trying to get it but looks like wont get there in time for when he starts school so have to look into placing him in a mainstream school. However most mainstream schools we have spoken to have said they are very little equipped to deal with non verbal autistic children and schools no longer offer 1:1 support like they used to and they want us to understand to not expect much.
What do i do? have u been in this situation? shall i keep him off school and homeschool untill he can get into a sen school?
if so how do i homeschool? how do i even get started? what are the costs???
