Sound dropping when switching between inputs/apps via arc pass through with receiver

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I got a new TV, Samsung S90H and since Samsung got rid of the one connect everything is connected separately to the receiver directly via hdmi. My PS5 is connected directly to the tv and the tv is connected to the receiver via the arc hdmi port. When I turn everything on if there isn’t sound detected immediately, or if the sound drops out switching between apps then the receiver loses the output handoff and it defaults back to the tv speakers. The only way to get it back is to cycle through the inputs on the receiver until it gets back to the right one and it detects the sound again.

The receiver is over 10 years old at this point, is that the issue or is it just a Samsung/receiver hand off thing?

I can’t run everything through the receiver because it’s too old to pass through the 4k signal.

If I turn off the arc setting on the tv it can’t find the reviver.
