does anyone else struggle working with older educators
as in older i'm talking like 60+ been working in education their whole life kind of thing.
when i first started at my current centre i was super excited because there was a couple older educators and i thought i could learn a lot from them. i work in a room as an assistant for one of them and whilst i have definitely learnt a lot it's really difficult when they're so stuck on their way and reject current teaching methods, science backed ways of learning, and just overall don't adapt well to new things.
whenever they get feedback on how to do something better they say 'well this is how i've always done it and it's never been a problem' and just generally disagrees with anything new.
i also feel like that generation is the 'stomp around angrily murmuring under their breath' when something happens that they don't like (like a couple toys were left in the yard - why not just talk to everyone and say hey guys i noticed this let's work together to make sure it doesn't happen frequently!!) makes me feel like im working with my parents.
i think there's a lot to learn from people with this much experience in the field and in no way am i trying to put down older eces but i do find it really frustrating at times. i'm sure this all can also be applied to some young eces but does anyone relate to this?
