I need a great sounding overdrive that excels in edge of breakup to moderate gain, and has limited headroom so when hit by another pedal it compresses rather than gets louder. Specifically for a high headroom amp.

I have a Matchless 30/15 which is a Spitfire that is able to put out 30 watts via a switch that is completely amazing, but I'm having trouble finding a pedal that I can use as a base edge of breakup that may be left on unless I'm playing completely clean.
I'm specifically looking for it to behave as a dirty amp does when it gets hit by a boost, in that I mean it compresses and adds additional dirt without a huge volume jump.

I've tried numerous pedals including the Lightspeed, Barbershop, Page, Rat, Rattler, Horsemeat (god I hate that name), Benson Fuzz, Dirty Little Secret mkIII, and Keeley tube drive. The closest that got to this goal was the DLS & the PRS dirt pedal. I'm not a huge fan of the DLS core sound and I'd prefer to put the PRS pedal up the chain as it has a fantastic range which I want to hit the end of chain base pedal with.

My amp is capable of putting out gain but those settings are really bright and I like to use it where it sounds warm and full, and in with that it has extremely high headroom. Basically every pedal just gets louder. I know there are alternatives like setting all pedals to be unity or using the volume knob on my guitar, but thats the purpose of this post - to ask the community if they know a pedal that fits this specific use case.
