Anyone with low working memory? (Plus advice on how to self-study)
The title (using a concept from psych/soc) kind of explains where I’m coming from. Working memory has always been an academic weakness of mine. As a non-traditional humanities student, I’ve always been able to rely on big-picture understanding and rote memory to get through exams. As the content becomes increasingly granular in biology, I’m finding myself having trouble committing the multipart pathways and diagrams into my longterm memory. If a pathway has more than five or six steps, I end up dropping the first few steps by the time I get to the end. My current strategies right now are “fishboning” and flashcards, combined with exercise to promote longterm neuroplasticity. I draw things out and use the Feynman method as well. Any other tips?
Also, if anyone can recommend any good free sites to get a primer on intro bio that would be much appreciated. I’m mostly using Kahn academy rn.
