Do you ask people to let you know they're home safe?

And do they let you know?

I'm especially curious if you're a guy and does it. I remember once saying I did it with male friends and was really chastised by a woman saying along the lines of "Oh yeah, men have it so bad... you can't just let women have this". I have no doubt women have it worse, but I think shared stuff like this should bring us closer not divide us.

I was motivated to ask this today as I was walking past a tube station and there were quite young lands there, maybe early 20s.. doing all the first bumps etc. A place if you were going for stereotypes you'd expect all the bravado. And one asked his male friends to let him know they got home safe. Just casually put in at the end. I thought it was nice.
