Exhausted from being judged for both reacting and not reacting
I’m having an issue with a close friend and I genuinely don’t know if I’m being unreasonable.
Whenever I react to something because I’m hurt, my reaction gets judged as immature or like I’m giving silent treatment. But when I take space and don’t react, that gets interpreted the same way.
Recently, she said some things about my character that genuinely hurt me. I ended the call and didn’t message because I was honestly expecting at least a small acknowledgment or apology. Instead, she felt I was punishing her by going silent.
I explained that I wasn’t trying to punish her—I was just hurt. I also acknowledged that my reaction could have looked like silent treatment and apologised for my part.
I care about this friendship, but I’m exhausted from feeling like whatever I do—react or not react—I’m somehow wrong for how I handle being hurt.
Myr it hurts.
