Is the whole fear about Fascism just fear driven?

Warning, a bit long

I tend to notice that reddit, in fact liberal leaning social media accounts in general talk about Fascism. How apparently Trump is the next " Hitler" and how democracy is doomed. I actually bought it, for ten years, I bought the fear of Fascism. I voted against him three times( still would a 4th time). I actually bought guns, stocked up on food, got a generator, protested, petitioned, and said crazy shit that would make you think I was a nut( true story)

What I noticed recently though is, I acted exactly like the people on the other side im opposed to. They do the same crazy shit. Worse, is that they try to act on that crazy shit, look at January 6th. I remember at a 50 50 1 protest I attended, the very first one that took place in February 2025? A self described " professor" expected Trump, like Hitler to dismantle democracy in 53 days. I believed that too.

I have to ask, after 10 years of the MAGA movement, where is the fascism? Dont get me wrong, I know things like abortion rights were curtailed because of him, he tried to overturn the 2020 election( BFD and the strongest argument probably), there's corruption( LOTS OF IT), there's a crazy cult of personality around him that defend EVERYTHING HE DOES.

Thing is, if Trump was fascist, and if MAGA were a true fascist movement? At this point, with them holding the levers of power, TWICE in ten years. Again let me emphasize, TEN YEARS. You as an American citizen would not have the right to speak about him the way you do.

I see endless comments and protests, of people calling him " Cheeto" or " Diaper Don" or " Man Baby" or " Sore Loser" or " Rapist ( likely true btw)" Yet I bet not a single one of you is in jail right now or worse executed. I know im not, I have said ALL KINDS OF STUFF. If any of you know me and see my Facebook profile, you will understand. I have talked so much shit against Trump, publicly, openly, and with no regard for what anyone thought. I even hurt people's feelings over it. Got into fights.

No one came kicking down my door, no angry mob of right wingers came looking to drag me into the streets, I was not under arrest, or being hung, or my assets seized, or sent off to some concentration camp. All of those things I described, happen in real fascist countries. Odds are if I went to North Korea and talked shit about Kim Jong Un like that? I would have been sent to prison to be tortured and executed.

Its gotten ridiculous, people on reddit especially over on r/politics have lost it. Its crazy, the two halves of the country truly believe that the other is out to get them. It seems we are being played, for fools, and it is also embarrassing on top of crazy. Both sides have gone down the rabbit hole and we need to come up.

The real threat to democracy is from both sides descending down the rabbit hole. That is my take. What do you others think? Im asking American citizens, hopefully I wont get downvoted or cursed out somehow.
