Think again before protest

Advice / Tip

Guys, listen. I am from the 25 batch, and honestly, I don't know how many people want to protest and how many don't. Tbh, I don't even want to know. But if you have decided to protest, then me and my friends are completely in and will be a part of it.

However, as I have been observing for the last few days, we haven't been able to decide whether the protest will actually take place or not, and if it does, then when. That's because some people post about the protest, some students upvote it, some downvote it, and an exact date is never decided.

So, I just want to clarify that if we genuinely want to protest, we need to schedule a proper date and time so that every student who wants to participate can be present. Ideally, it should be done before the Diwali holidays, so that we don't have to come back again just for the protest.

But genuinely, a protest should only be conducted if it is actually necessary. We have paid our hostel and mess fees, and neither our parents nor we ourselves want to sit at home after paying such a huge amount. So, we should think sincerely and decide whether a protest is really necessary or whether these issues can be resolved through other means.

Because at the end of the day, it's our loss. We are paying somewhere around ₹1,100 every day, while the college won't face nearly as much loss. Unlike our parents, for the college, spending ₹5–6 crore, or even less, on repairs is just a small amount.

I completely agree that things are not right. Some students are facing harassment, there are issues with the CAT system, winter supplementary exams, and many other problems. So, if a protest is genuinely needed, then it should definitely be done.

But if we do protest, it should actually have a proper outcome. Last time, many students were just enjoying the protest, looting items, and doing many other things that had nothing to do with our actual concerns.

So, I am in. If we are going to protest, let's do it properly, with a clear date, proper planning, and a genuine purpose.

Thank you.
