Any suggestions on what to do?

Career Advice

Hello fellow MLS! Any Sydney-siders here? :D

I recently got interviewed for a part-time reception position but was rejected because I mentioned I’ll be planning to study a Master’s in Laboratory Medicine next year.

I’m currently on a gap year with a Bachelor of Medical Science until March and only have work experience in fast food. I’d like to use this time productively and build some relevant technical/lab experience to become more competitive after graduating.

I’ve been advised to look into part-time TA/LA roles during my Master’s, but I’m concerned about balancing work and study.

So I’m wondering how you guys did it :)

- Were you able to balance part time work with full time studying

- Or would you recommend working casually at a unrelated field in the meantime until graduation

- What extracurricular activities did you do in the meantime to help your professional career
