Help with Fan Install

Need a little help with wiring

I recently bought an open box version of a ceiling fan we really like (minkaire artemis IV). When I went to install it I noticed that there was only a black, white and ground wire coming from the fan. My junction box has a black, red, white, and ground wire. Doing some research it seems like the black wire is for the fan motor and the red wire is for the light. After browsing Reddit it seems as though I should be able to connect either red or black wire to the black wire for the fan. The red wire was already stripped so I used that but neither the fan or light are working. I then tried the black wire and it still didn't work. Did I likely just buy a dud open box or is there something that I may have missed?
