All I want to do in life is be a stay-at-home dad
20M. What is insane to me is how many options I have but I lack interest in any of them.
I’ve been working-class since I was 17. At 19 I had already managed a store, working open-to-close shifts and doing overtime during the holidays. It is exhausting working so much. My body gets so weak and I don’t make any money to show for my efforts.
I realized college wasn’t for me because I have no interest that I could pursue in a career. I have interests and hobbies but nothing I could make money off of. I do see a handful of potential careers for myself, but what I really want is to be a stay-at-home parent.
Throughout my entire life my biggest motivator to do anything is if it directly benefits someone else. I like doing favors for people and helping them with things they don’t want to do. I would love to clean and care for a home while my wife or husband works. I love children. I’m good with kids and could even see myself homeschooling my own children.
And truly worrying about finances is such a huge burden on me mentally, I am constantly stressed about having money to afford what I need, and also save to put some away. But I’m hardly making above minimum wage. It’s miserable. I don’t feel motivated to pursue a career but in this economy and with my limited dating pool as a socially anxious and sorta feminine dude, I feel so ashamed in my lack of progress and ambition. If I didn’t need to worry about money, I could freely attend to my hobbies and perhaps eventually actually make profit from them somehow. But instead I’m stuck in a vicious work cycle with nothing to show. I’m trying to have fun but this is hell 😭
