3rd date didn’t go well, then a guy at the movie theater tried to hit on me while I was still on the date. What do I do with this situation?
Hello everyone! I’m 19M and my date is 20M. We’ve been on 2 dates before this one, one of which was ok and the other went really well. We played Mario Kart and other games on the 2nd date, which really helped flow our conversations. For some reason though this last date that I went on felt completely different.
He picked me up at my apartment, with heavy metal music playing. I just tolerate that genre and I’m a main popgirly listener (this will come in later). He then starts venting to me about his job, which I try to comfort him on. Otherwise there’s a lot of silence in the car. We get to the movie theater and while my date uses the bathroom, I go grab a soda. I reach the counter and after paying, the cashier asks me what my favorite Sabrina Carpenter song was. For context, I was wearing a Short N Sweet Sabrina Carpenter shirt that I just bought yesterday. I said “Sugar Talking. It’s from her latest album, and I like her recent 2 albums.” He said “Yeah I only know that one song, Cappuccino or what was the drink?” I corrected him and said, “Espresso. Yeah, it’s some coffee name.” We laughed and there was some silence. I just said, “Ok, thank you!” He then looked defeated and said sadly, “Enjoy the movie!” I answered him normally because I didn’t realize he was flirting with me. It wasn’t until I was getting my drink from the machine that I realized what just happened. I kept a mental note of it and walked with my date to our seats. We had our reactions, laughed and said “What?” multiple times. We watched Primetime which is about the series “How to Catch a Predator”, and it didn’t leave us with much to talk about after the movie. Which is strange given the subject, but I think we were both just processing what had happened. I saw that same guy who had tried to make his move, and it reminded me how awkward the timing of the whole thing was for the both of us. I could tell my date was still trying to keep the conversation alive after we left but I wasn’t given much to work with unfortunately. I just said “Thank you for this. Have a goodnight!” and didn’t give him a hug or anything.
Now I’m still trying to process all of this. We had such a great 2nd date, but after seeing a different side to him on this 3rd one, I felt less attraction and was less connected. I wanted to feel wanted and connected by him, but I didn’t really feel that on this date. I also can’t stop thinking about how bizarrely that cashier situation played out, because I had another guy shooting his shot at me in the middle of the date without realizing it until afterwards.
This could have just been an awkward or off date or I’m just realizing we’re not as compatible as I thought. I guess I’m looking for advice on how to process this and how to move forward. Would you give it another date, or take this as sign that we might not be as compatible given how bizarre the whole thing was? Thanks for reading!
