I have hope!!!
I just came back from watching this movie. I am a FILAM and live in a very white neighborhood in Northern California. I thought the movie theater would be full of Filipino's but when I walked in I was pleasantly surprised. It was a mix of people. Two white boys and their mom were buying tickets for Forgotten Island and many in the theater were mostly adults non Filipino. There was probably just one other Filipino family there who got the culture references.
I was so proud they were watching this movie with bits of Tagalog mixed in.
But I agree with what some people are saying. The trailer does not give justice to the main story of the movie which is friendship and the memories that you create together. It's about letting go but at the same time finding a way to still be together.
The merman did not need to be included and neither did the big baby. Overall I loved it, loved that our culture was represented and wow, it was such a beautiful and colorful animated movie.
