Is it safe to drive a 1997 Volvo 850 sedan sitting in upper midwest garage for three years?

I have a 1997 Volvo 850 sedan sitting in upper midwest garage for three years. I did an oil change and got a new battery before the car went on its unplanned sit-in in the garage three years ago. I tried starting the car, and it started today (I tried it three times). It was a pretty good car when it was being driven somewhat sparingly and for recreation towards the end (it has 150 K mles). I was planning to give it away to someone who needs a car. What are the things I should look at to make sure I am not passing on a death trap? (Alternatively, I will just donate it if it is not a good idea to give away this old a car that has been sitting around in the garage.)
