I rebuilt my landing page 4 times before admitting the headline was the problem
Two years ago my landing page converted at 0.4%. I was getting around 800 visitors a month from a few guest posts and search scraps, so that meant about 3 signups a month. Painful.
My response was to redesign the page. Four times. I changed the layout, swapped the hero image, tried a dark theme, added testimonials, reworked the whole pricing section. Each rebuild ate a weekend or two. Conversion barely moved. 0.4% crept up to 0.5% on a good week and I called that progress.
Then a founder friend looked at the page and asked a simple question: what does this thing actually do? My headline was "Workflows that work for you." It sounded clever. It said nothing about who the product was for or what problem it solved. I had read that headline a thousand times and my brain just filled in the meaning.
I rewrote it to say exactly what the product does and who it is for, in plain words. One line, no cleverness. I changed nothing else on the page. Within three weeks the conversion rate went from 0.4% to 2.1%. Same traffic, same offer. Three signups a month became sixteen.
I spent months polishing everything around the headline because rebuilding felt like progress. It was not. It was avoidance.
Has anyone else here been blind to their own headline for months? What finally made you rewrite yours?
