Getting back into WoW, few very important questions...

Hey guys and gals, I recently used the 10 day trial on my account to figure out whether or not I'd be interested in returning to Azeroth and the signs are pointing to "Yes." BUT I have a few questions.

First off, I was heavy into raiding back in BC and WotLK and was wondering how the raiding scene is today. I don't mind moving servers with one or two characters so I'm considering finding a new, higher population server to get into the swing of things. Is there any server, in particular, that would be a good choice?

Second, how are classes now-a-days? Any classes to avoid or is it well balanced now?

As for PvP, I'm not too huge of a fan but I wouldn't mind a server on the battlegroup with good players and, preferably, an active twinking community (man, I miss those days).

Lastly, if you have any general information that is pertinent, I would love to know!

Thanks, everyone!

Well the raiding scene really depends on your faction and server base(Eu/Us/whatever) I know Alliance US Stormage is #1, Horde US is Illidan and Area 52. Alliance EU is outland/silvermoon and horde is stormscale.

Currently Horde in the US. Looking into Illidan, thanks for the suggestions!

Being "heavy into raiding" is a vague term to be honest. For some it could simply mean dedicating yourself to a planned raiding schedule whereas it for others means pursuing realm/world firsts raiding several hours a day.

Either way raiding is still pretty much alive. More people than ever before are raiding and there are currently four difficulties of the end-game raid "Siege of Orgrimmar" -- something for everyone.

If you transfer to a high-populated server you will find loads of guilds recruiting to start raiding, progressing heroics at various days and times of the day. If you can't dedicate yourself to a raiding schedule there is usually some pugs running SoO normal.

When it comes to classes, all specs are viable though some are marginally better. In heroics monks and paladins have an advantage as tanks, warlocks and feral druids usually top dps meters, but all dps classes are at this point viable as well. Healers are difficult to measure because of the dominant role absorbs are currently playing in healing, but all classes can heal properly, albeit some argue mistweaver or holy priests are worse than the rest.

To clarify, I meant that I stuck to a schedule with my guild and we pursued some realm firsts, even got one!

Currently looking into Illidan as the Horde side seems very active.

As for classes, I'm looking at moving my R. Druid and Prot Pally for raiding as well as raising a hunter on whichever server.

Hopefully the transition is smooth for me.

Rdruids and prot palas are both very good in SoO. Prot pala becomes a bit gimmicky imo but that's just personal preference.

If raiding is your only reason for switching servers, note that:

  • currently, flex raiding can be done for current content cross-realm
  • in the expac, flex raiding will become normal raiding, and it will be doable cross-realm
