Why More OEM Customers Want to Switch Between Bluetooth HID and SPP
One feature request keeps coming up in our OEM projects for the XTIOT XT3001AER Bluetooth ring scanner.
It's not about scan speed or decoding performance.
Instead, customers ask:
"Can the scanner switch between Bluetooth HID and Bluetooth SPP?"
At first, it sounds like a small firmware feature.
But in real applications, it can make a big difference.
Some customers use Bluetooth HID because they want the scanner to behave like a standard keyboard. It works well with existing software and usually requires little or no additional development.
Others choose Bluetooth SPP because their application needs structured data, custom commands, acknowledgements, or tighter communication with the host system.
We've even seen projects where the same hardware platform is used in different products, with one customer requiring HID mode and another requiring SPP mode.
Being able to switch communication modes helps OEMs standardize on one scanner while supporting multiple software architectures.
It's a small feature, but it can significantly simplify deployment, maintenance, and future product updates.
For those working with Bluetooth barcode scanners:
Which communication mode do you prefer for OEM integration—HID, SPP, or the ability to switch between both?
