What am I doing wrong with the quest boss?

Should I switch to my crappy Havensilver weapons or? I've died like 10 times. I don't usually struggle with bosses like this but the fight is just so janky? Forget the duo mode debate - am I the only one who finds the Story mode teaser just a bad fight?
