Puppy Started Prozac
I recently made a post a couple of days ago asking about people’s experiences of putting their pets on Prozac.
Yesterday morning, my 7-month-old puppy who struggles with general noise anxiety officially started taking 20mg of Prozac. Her fear had gotten to where she had begun to regress in potty training, wouldn’t go on walks, was spooked by literally anything and everything outside (from people walking around outside to any and all noises outside), and overall, I felt so sad because my once happy, go lucky puppy was no longer herself 😢
After meeting with a veterinary behaviorist, she was prescribed 20mg of Prozac and today marked her second day taking it.
I’m not sure if it’s a placebo effect on me, or if the medicine is starting to actually work this fast (I know it takes a full 8 weeks before the medicine is in full effect), but my puppy has been much less anxious outside, wanting to go on longer walks, and acting more like her normal, playful self. It started yesterday afternoon when we went outside, and she willingly walked past the area that she usually would stop and want to turn around to go home. Though she still had certain areas she wouldn’t go, we walked around the block several times, and she was less on edge when she heard a noise.
Fast forward to today, and again, she was eager to go outside, and this morning, even got the zoomies outside. She wanted to chase birds, sniff a little longer, actually wanted to say hi to a stranger walking on the sidewalk, and then later this afternoon, wanted to walk some more. It genuinely made me so happy I could’ve cried, especially after the longest month and a half of her not even wanting to go outside 😭😭😭
I know this medicine isn’t an overnight fix, and many people report having highs and lows during the loading period, but did anyone else notice a few positive results when first starting their dogs on Prozac?
