A year alone
It’s been roughly a year (give or take a few days) since I separated with my fiancée. I was in what feels like a common scenario where we shared a friend group. Our friend group chose to stick with her, though the breakup was mutual. In the year since, I’ve failed to make any new friends. I’ve tried joining clubs and getting out, but I think I have too high of expectations from friendships. I meet people and become familiar, but I never really connect with anyone. The connections are shallow and fading. I miss that deep connection. I miss the moments of real connection and deep sharing. I work from home and don’t have many opportunities to meet new people. Is this what life is like? I’ve struggled making friends for most of my life, but for the first time I don’t have any at all. I don’t blame anyone but myself, but are some of us cursed to lives alone?
