Feeling a little conflicted (mindset)
I'm on day 4 and feeling fine. The injection is working and I'm having minimal side effects (thankfully). However, I've noticed that I'm counting calories in reverse and struggling to hit my minimum calories and protein. But we can hand wave that as this is a learning process. What I'm conflicted about is competing goals and focus.
I've trained for and run 5 full marathons in the past 3 years. I had signed up to do my 6th and even got a spot after the lottery. I should be thrilled and diving into 16+ weeks of hard and dedicated training. But I can't. There will be no way for me to properly fuel my training and long runs with the delayed gastric emptying. The caloric requirements, specifically from carbs (mostly simple) just aren't going to work.
Instead the goal that I'm chasing is my overall health. Starting GLP-1 and getting my blood pressure, weight, and food relationship much more controlled is more important. I'm still going to be running and lifting weights (more) but it won't be my focus. And that makes me feel a little sad. I don't know if there will be another marathon for me sometime in the future, but if there is I will be healthier when I toe that line.
