laptop touchpad not working

hello!
my asus zenbook laptop touchpad has suddenly stopped working. when i try to toggle the f6 key to enable it, the popup saying "touchpad disabled" comes up, if i press it again, it just keeps saying disabled instead of changing to enabled. i have tried various driver reinstallations and restarts, as well as toggling different settings. i've tried everything i can think of to no avail. so i am turning to reddit.
if anyone has any assistance to offer it would be greatly appreciated.
