Trip delay insurance

Hello,

I was scheduled on a flight from my hometown to Portugal that was delayed by over 3 hours (due to plane mechanical error) and resulted in me needing to be rescheduled to the next day and miss a day of my trip. I called Capital One to verify if I was eligible for the travel insurance and they made it seem like I was, but after looking up some of the requirements I saw that because I was able to return back to my home I may not qualify for insurance. Does anyone know if this is true?
