Kitten before baby?

Question for the group

A few months ago my wife agreed that it was finally an ok time to get a Siberian kitten. We have two children, one who is 2.5 and another who is now 1.

A few months ago I paid the deposit for a kitten. Originally the estimated birthdate was late summer/early fall, but apparently this litter didn’t go as planned. The new estimate is late fall/early winter.

Today we found out my wife is pregnant. Assuming the pregnancy goes to plan, the baby would be due late May. My wife now wants to back out of the kitten, afraid it’ll be too much to take on with a newborn (and 3 kids). Totally fair reservation but one of the reasons I really want a cat is for emotional support and I would love to have one to snuggle with when times get crazy with 3 kids.

So here’s my question: let’s assume kitty comes home at 12 weeks old in February. That gives us roughly 3 months of establishing her in the home before baby arrives. Is that still too crazy? Should we cancel? Or is it worth it?
